| Show AMUSEMENTS 4lI I Clarence Eil ly A splendid audience gathered at the J tabernacle last night to hear the organist i or-ganist Clarence Eddy The twenty i five cent portion of the house was pacKedthis being a kind of thermometer thermom-eter of the financial condition of our I music lovers The audience was a large one though doubtless a stranger I seeing the many empty seats and not realizing the great seating capacity of i I this vast auditorium might undei estimate esti-mate it I The size of the audience was of itself it-self a high compliment to the great i organist but greater still was the rapt attention they gave each number on the programnie and the enthusiasm with which they applauded The first number was Bachs Fan tasie and Fugue in G minor which gave good opportunity for the organist organ-ist to show the power of the great Instrument I in-strument and to show his own power 1 and mastery of technique There is not a great deal of registration this I I Fugue but I is very difficult of execution I exe-cution Mr Eddys rendition was only i such as a great artist could give II Schuberts Am Meer was given with I I great delicacay of touch and variety of expression and was followed by I I the Pilgrims Chorus from Tann I haeuser which is always grand and was in Mr Eddys hands very expressive expres-sive The tabernacle choir followed I with Hail Bright Abode from Tann I haeuser and sung until that immense auditorium rang and rang and echoed with a rang of melody A great outburst of applause followed Mr Eddy then played The Holy Night giving great beauty to the interpretation in-terpretation and making very effective use of the vox humano The variations on the Austrian Hymn called out full applause The registration in this was I regstraton i remarkable The melody In C by J A West dedicated to Clarence Eddy Iwa very sweet and dainty Toccata in I A by Best was very difficult of execution The Pastorale Werr I mann and the Nuptial March Gull I mant were as sweet as the kiss of a girl of 16 and illustrated the delicate I possibilities of the tabernacle organ Again the tabernacle choir stirred the hearts of the audience this time sing ins Worthy is the Lamb from the Messiah The concert closed with a selection from Der Freischutz and a Finale by Lemmens Mr Eddys phrasing is exceptionally fine and his execution very smooth He plays with a great deal of fire He is I master of the instrument and his reception last night was worthy of such The programme was exceed ingly i well chosen covering a very great variety of style expression and L method Tonight Mr Eddy will favor our people with another concert This concert time if will be given in the First Congregational Con-gregational church and he will give an entirely new programme To those who heard him last night it will give an opportunity of comparison of the organ in the tabernacle and that in the Congregational church As for you who were not there well you would better go and not miss the opportunity portunity of hearing Mr Eddy The Crimson Scarf This morning at 10 oclock the box office at the theatre opens for the sale of seats to the Home Opera performance perfor-mance of the Crimson Scarf on Thursday evening Manager Burton has made all preparations for a heavy rush and the indications are that the old time successes of Patience Pin afdre The Pirates of Penzance the Bohemian Girl Marth and the other operas in which our home singers and actors have achieved such nota ble reputations will be duplicated in the coming performance The principals princi-pals will be Mr Spencer Mr Pyper Mr Young Mr Westervelt Mr Claw son Mrs Jennie HawleyWoodrow Miss Jennie Winston while Mr Krouse and Mr Weihe will preside over an orchestra or-chestra organized specially for this opera and consisting of the following well known musicians Mr Weihe first violin Mr Youn dale violin Mr Masterman second violin Mr Jesperson viola Mr Christiansen bass Mr Benixten flute Mr Nicols clarinett Mr Zimmerman cornet Mr Olsen trombone Mr Beesley piano Mr Berry drums H S Krouse director The Crimson Scarf was produced in Bountiful last evening at the new opera house A large party went up with the opera company The out of town performances should aid the company to give a smooth representa ton Thursday evening |
