Show ESTRAY LAWS Another Version of the Stock Crier taco Editor Salt Lake Herald Dear SirWhat is the mater with Farmer Is he ignorant of the fact that most farmers possess stock of different dif-ferent kinds A farm does not pay without sufficient animals to consume the rough feed and in this manner convert means con-vert the same into more available I am not directly concerned in the Utah estray law for I reside in Idaho some four miles over the Utah line Now this is the way we are served here The law requires a lawful fence We are not permitted to take up animals ani-mals doing damages during summer months unless they go through a lawful fence and only in winter are we allowed to do so and then only when they are starving around our places are we permitted to advertise and feed them for sixty days before they can be sold Now Mr Editor you will readily see the Injustice W which we are subjected I sub-jected The stock men and farmers of Cache county Utah dump their dry I herds into Oneida county Ida in summer As they farm mostly without with-out fence their stock runs here unmolested unmo-lested until they come and gather them up in the fall In the meantime if any of our stock goes over the line and near any locations they are immediately I immedi-ately seized and driven to the estra < pound and are sold before we know i This business has been carried on tor a disgraceful extent parties have gone on new places and planted a few acres of grain without a shadow of a fence and any animal that would come within smelling distance of it would be driven to the estray pound > and in this manner the parties do a land office business and then boast that they had made more in collecting I damages than the crop amounted to I wish to state however that Box I Elder county is an honorable exception IlS they fence and a man that will I not take sufficient pride in his farm to enclose i with a fence is no better I than a pagan Yours truly A SUFFERER |
