Show PERISHED OX THEPRAIRIE Further Particulars ConeerniiiK the Disappearance of E P 3Inn n Some days ago mention was made in The Heral or the mysterious disappearance disap-pearance of E P Mason of Manhattan Kas who left Logan where he had been visiting his daughter for home on November 15 No trace could be found of the gentleman but it now develops that he perished on the prairie near Mirage Kas The Rocky Mountain News of Tuesday tells the story as mac lows Yesterday morning the dead body of E P Mason of Manhattan ICes who has been missing since November 13 was found on the prairie five miles north of Mirage station on the Kansas Pacific road Mr Mason who was an old man 65 years of age some weeks ago went to Logan Utah to visit a daughter there He started home on November 15 and as he railed to arrive when expected inquiries in-quiries were made and it developed that he left the train at Mirage station on the Kansas Pacific nine miles east ofi Hugo and that was the lat seen of him alive ProfessoV S C Mason of1 the Kansas Agricultural college who Is te SOl of the deceased cam west in search of his father While in Denver he had < handbills containing a description descrip-tion of the old man printed and circulated cir-culated along the line of the Kansas Pacific Burlington and Denver Pacific oftering 202 reward for any information that would lead to the discovery of his father It seems that Mr Mason was sometimes some-times troubled with fits of temporary tmes insanity and while on his way npme left the train at Mirage in the night lef wandered around on the prairie until overcome by hunger and exposure he fell down and died Fortunately the coyotes coy-otes did not find his body so it was In a perfect state of preservation when found though the old man had prob ably been dead several days The bodY was found by a searching party in charge of the son and was removed re-moved to Mirage where after It had been viewed by the coroner it was sent I on to Manhattan for burial Professor Mason is said to be greatly grIeved over the sad affair and blames himself for I having permitted his father to travel alone at his age |
