interesting I day yet or the Thiede trial The principal 1 prin-cipal witness was the defendant himself j him-self He took the stand after the noon i recess and was under crossexamination I when court adjourned at 530 oclock The crossexamination will be resumed t I this morning and it is expected the testimony will close today Annie t Thiede the 9yearold daughter of the t defendant gave her evidence In the forenoon yesterday and proved a good witness for the defense She gave her father a good character and exhibited 11 great intelligence in one so young Her evidence In crossexamination was not i materially shaken Thiede was pale and nervous on the stand and at times showed symptoms of deep feeling feeUnJOHN JOHN TRUST examined by Judge Cherry said he lived at Murray and worked at he was 34 years of age He was born at Gries wold Germany July 30 1860 and lived there till 1874 Went to sea in 1874 and afterwards was three years in the German Ger-man navy then kept a hotel at Gries wold for two years after which he came to Salt Lake city Wasmarried to Mary Franks at Grieswold in 1883 The child Annie was born at Grieswold Defendant came to America in 1885 and located at Murray where he followed the business of a saloonkeeper His wife came out from Germany in 1SS7 and joined him at Murray where he kept a saloon until his arrest on May 1 lastYou You furnshed the new brick
