Board of Public Works The board of public works met on Monday evening in the city council chamber with Chairman Doremus Messrs Downey Caine and Wells preset Gravity sewer was the matter mat-ter under discussion and I the board having arrived at the I conclusion that at the present rate at which work is being done the undertaking will not be completed within the time specified by the contract viz December 11 it was resolved to officially notify the con tractors to put OD a sufficient force within ten days 1 to ensure its comple ton within the required is I was also resolved to notify the contractors that the board wouldjnot allow openings or excavations t bemade south of South Temple streetf until all work north of that point is closed up The board < wag then joined by the I I city councils committee on claims and as a joint committee le 92 Claims r < of Frank Harrigan sidewalk contractor I were discussedi Mr Harrlgan some time ago put in a claim for 177525 for profit which he had missed making by the action ofthe former city council in I allowing property owners to lay their own sidewalks after having let the I contract for laying the whole of the walk to Harrigan The amount speci I fed as having been let away from Harrigan was 25360 square feet The I committee thought the amount claimed I was excessive and Mr Bache remarked remark-ed that it indicated that Harrigan made I 33 13 per cent profit I was resolved to request Mr Harrigan to furnish a I detailed statement of his claim and also i statement showing the exact cost per foot of laying the walk so that the committee could determine just how nnich helhad lost The committee com-mittee then adjourned subject to call of Chairman Doremus I
