Show IN THE GRANARY OF UTAH Local News From the Queen City of the North The city council met last night with President Thornton in the chair After the usual preliminaries the privilege of the floor was granted to visitors Mr H J Carlisle presented a plat of Poplar avenue and asked that said venue be declared open and petitioners would I deed the samo to the city Accepted provided I pro-vided the city surveyor certify to correctness II correct-ness of plat Victor Crockett presented a claim for feeding a prisoner Referred feeding prsoner I Mr Allen representing the manufacturers manufactur-ers of tho Holloway chemical fire engine presented a proposition to the council to sell ono of their engines Referred to the committees on lire department and linance A petition was presented from R Mur dock ot at asking the city to purchase a chemical engine After some discussion it was referred to the committee on fire department de-partment A petition was presented from John Quayle et al asking that tho two roads leading north from Logan be placed in repair re-pair so that the farmers might bo ablo to haul hay over them On motion of Carlisle Car-lisle 10U was appropriated to be divided between the two streets The special committee to whom was referred re-ferred the petition of the retail liquor dealers asking that wholesale dealers be not permitted to sell in less quantities than ono quart reported adversely Report adopted Tho committee on rules and regulations reported some changes necessary in order to comply with tho law The changes were made as represented and the committee on engrossing and printing authorized to have I fifty copies of the revised rules printed The verbal petition of C T Barrett asking ask-ing that a deed for some land be corrected was referred to the committee on claims The committee on police reported that inasmuch as the city was likely to dispose of the land between the Firemans bal and Third street that in their opinion the addition ad-dition to the bal should be made fireproof and made some suggestions as to the form of the building Further action in the matter was delerred and the committee on police and marshal were authorized to rent a room for police headquarters to be I used until the addition above referred to was built The committee on public grounds was authorized to dispose of the hay growing the city park Tho committee on streets reported in favor of having the boundaries of First South street defined as the owners of the contiguous property claimed the greater portion of it also reported in layer of reducing re-ducing the width of J street between First and First South streets from six to four rods and that the two rods on the cast side be sold to the adjacent property owners at the rate of f5 per rod front also were in favor of opening J street from First to Second streets and that Second street be opened from there east to the river The committee on finance recommended that the rate of taxation be Axed at 5 mills and that the assessor and collector be allowed 8 per cent of the amount collected col-lected The assessed valuation is 1930 S42 Report accepted and recommendation adopted Tuesday July 20 was the day appointed for tho council to sit as a board of equalization equal-ization v The mayor authorized to negotiate a Joan not to exceed 1010 for sixty days was The 55335 total amount of the bills allowed |
