Show I MAT BKOOKLYNS 8UICIDE I I Sent a Thrill Through the Theatrical Theat-rical World New York Feb 16The fate of May Brooklyn who committed suicide inS I in-S n Francisco yesterday was the subject sub-ject of general comment in theatrical circles today II She is said to have been engaged to I Frederick A Lovecraft Palmers former I for-mer business manager and I is considered con-sidered a melancholy coincidence that he too committed suicide some months ago and used the same poison as Miss Brooklyn carbolic acid Buttons to whom the San Francisco Fran-cisco dispatch says is Brooklyn left JI her effects has frequented the theatrical theat-rical district some years and is now about 26 years old but from boyhood Miss Brooklyn took a friendly interest inter-est in him Miss Brooklyns past is dimly known I is believed from disconnected facts which she gave cgncerning her early life that she was the daughter of an English curate of good family She was married when 16 to Captain King an English army officer but her married mar-ried life was unhappy and they separated sep-arated A few years after she went upon the stage making her debut in Jevings company In a short time she became a star and travelled in the provinces The real name of the dead actress is unknown She came here from England in 1883 with a fair professional reputation She ap neared here for the first time as Claire in The Iron Master at the Fifth Avenuetheatre on April 5 1884 In 1885 she became a member of Bidwells Stock company in New Orleans and remained there until the sprIng of 18S7 when she returned here and joined Palmers Stock company remaining with it to the end Henry C Jarrett an actor who was in Palmers Stock company with Miss Brookyn for five years and also knew her in England says she had been despondent for some time and often snake of suicide When parting with her in the west Jarrett says she spoke of Lovecrafts sad fate and said I wont be here long l myself |
