Show STILL AT WEST JOED XO CHAXGE lX THE INDUSTRIAL ARMY SITUATION May Take a Train Within the Next Two or Three Days Railroad People Peo-ple Declare They Will Not Handle the Industrials nt All The Salt Lake division of the Commonweal Common-weal army is still encamped at the Old Telegraph mill near West Jordan and the probabilities of its Ieainr the territory over the Rio Grinle Western with the consent of the company without lust paying regular fare seems to jrrtw less daily Still the officers and men are not disheartened and stick to their determination deter-mination to push on east regardless of the railroad company The men are becoming be-coming very restless however on account ac-count of what they deem unnecessary delays and are now only waiting the order from the general to start on down the highway toward the eastern line of the territory It ls probable that the order will be given today or tomorrow i Carter was in the city yesterday forenoon fore-noon on the rustle as usual but he t asked for no special meeting of the members of the local committees which are assisting in the movement and had no conference with the railroad people General Palmer and Colonel Dodge remained re-mained in the city all day but it was stated last night that they would more than likely go out on the road again this morning for the purpose of looking over that portion of the system not heretofore here-tofore inspected The gentlemen stick to their assertion made to a reporter of The Herald that the Rio Grande Western West-ern will not handle the members of the army except upon the payment of the usual fare and the presentation of tickets tick-ets for all of the soldiers Any attempt jon j-on the part of the army to steal a train I will be repulsed with force they both stated At the camp the peace and quietness of the Sabbath prevailed the men devoting devot-ing the day to rest except where they went on little foraging tours among the farm houses The strictest of military I i discipline is being maintained in order to prevent any vandalism and at night regular pickets patrol the lines of the army The State street headquarters of the home reserve were open until 5 oclocK yesterday afternoon and a number of recruits were enlisted At 2 oclock this afternoon the official muster of the reserve re-serve will take place at the headquarters headquar-ters and the members will then be detailed de-tailed to the several companies and the subordinate officers will be selected by the men themselves One of the lieutenants came up from the camp yesterday afternoon and discussed dis-cussed the situation freely with a Herald Her-ald reporter We are beginning to lose hope of getting get-ting a train said he and the men are inclined to think they will have to hoof it after all Perhaps if we start out they will take pity on us and give Us a ride The Idea of splitting up into small squads and riding forward to assemble at some agreed point has been suggested but It does not meet with favor and that plan will not be carried out The men are more determined than ever to go on but they will stay together They are becoming very restless over their long delay but I do not think they will be another attempt to steal a train A good many changes have been made fh the Officers but the men still have every confidence in General Carter and will stand by him When will we move out Well I would not venture an opinion on that I have done so a dozen times already al-ready and in each Instance have been wrong and have now reached the conclusion con-clusion that I dont know anything about it We are simply waiting for something to turn up and will follow out any order General Carter gives us |
