Show IN RAIL Vi A Y CIRCLES EFFORTS TO SECURE THE NEXT BROTHERHOOD CONVENTION The Chamber of Commerce Moving in the tterDclegute Belestf Leaves for St Paul Railway Notes Engineer Beless the Salt Lake delegate dele-gate to the convention of < the Brotherhood Brother-hood of Locomotive Engineers to beheld be-held at St Paul left for that place yesterday yes-terday He takes with him a supply of Utah literature which he will distribute dis-tribute to the best advantage and is prepared to make a strong pull to secure se-cure the next convention for Salt Lake The chamber of commerce has the matter mat-ter in hand and Secretary Colborn yesterday yes-terday sent the following letter to Governor Gov-ernor West Mayor Baskin and the city council Dear SirI am directed to advise you that at the convention of the Grand International Brotherhood of Locomotive Locomo-tive Engineers now about to convene at St Paul Minn the location wherein the next convention of this Brotherhood will be held is to be selected The Salt Lake chamber of commerce is desirous of having Salt Lake city agree upon this You will appreciate the advantage this community will derive de-rive from the holding of this convention conven-tion here when I inform you that the convention will be dual in character a convention of the Brotherhood proper and of the Ladies Auxiliary thereto There are 537 lodges in the Brotherhood the total delegation will exceed 1000 the convention will be in session twenty three to thirty days and the characteristic character-istic of the locomotive engineer is that upon such occasions he goes in to have a good time and spend money The actual expenditure of the delegates during dur-ing the session will exceed 100000 This convention will be held In May or June 1S96 The only ooncession required from cities seeking to be the scene of the convention is a guarantee that a suitable suit-able hall shall be furnished the convention con-vention free of charge It is believed the territorial fair building will be sufficient suf-ficient for the purpose and can be secured se-cured in the event that in the meantime mean-time a more satisfactory building cannot can-not be had I respectfully suggest to you the advisability of extending an invitation to the convention by letter and inasmuch as the invitation should go through a particular channel I request re-quest that if you deem it advisable to extend it that it be forwarded to the chamber of commerce for transmission Respectfully E F COLBORN Secretary |
