BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL Brenda Jo Buckley, of Bountiful, has been chosen National Poster Girl for the Epilepsy Foundation Founda-tion of America, it was announced today by her parents, pa-rents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonn L. Buckley, 85 South 423 West. "WE RECEIVED a telegram tele-gram notifying us of the appointment of Brenda Jo but other than that we don't know much about what has happened hap-pened or what we will be doing," said Mrs. (Jeannine) Buckley. "However, we have been advised that we will accompany accom-pany Brenda Jo for a personal visit with President Reagan in the White House. Her picture will also appear on all posters and literature about epilepsy and she will undoubtedly make some personal appearances, but to what extent we don't know." BRENDA JO is excited about ab-out meeting the president and being able to fly to Washington, Washing-ton, D.C. for the occasion. "I might even miss some kindergarten," kinder-garten," she says. The 6-year-old blue-eyed blonde beauty who has functioned func-tioned normally without a single sing-le attack for the past 14 months is looking forward to meeting the president and then telling all her friends about it. SHE WON THE state contest, con-test, sponsored by the Utah Epilepsy Association, in June and the following month was entered in the national contest. Brenda Jo can do anything most 6-year-olds can do, explained ex-plained her mother. She functions func-tions normally, and loves to play with dolls, ride her bike, and play with the neighborhood neighbor-hood kids. She even takes swimming lessons and sings and dances. "It was then she had her first seizure and short time later was having serious seizures one right after another. "We placed her in the Epilepsy Center in American Fork where she lived under their constant care for about a year. Then we found a medicine medi-cine that she takes daily and she has not had a seizure since May 1980." MRS. BUCKLEY explained that although Brenda Jo is functioning normally now, she could still have another seizure at any time. Also, she noted, Brenda Jo "got a little behind" when she was ill and is still trying to catch up with children her age. Brenda Jo is the second oldest old-est of five Buckley children. She has two brothers and two sisters. |
