Show RACING IN DENVER J l Gillesple Speaks on Turf Pavements and The Herald Colorados Metropolis J K Gillespie of Kelsey Gillespie is back from Denver where he went in the interests of racing and real estate Mr Gillespie said to a HERALD representative yesterday The talk about Salt Lake has by no means subsided Not a day passed while I was riding on the cars there out to the race track when I did not hear ladies talking talk-ing of coming out to Salt Lake this summer to take in our salt bathing The races there were very successful but considering con-sidering that they have cheap railway tansportation from the city right to the grand stand20 cents for the round tripI do not think the patronage is any way remarkable re-markable They are not so well attended as they are herethe population of both places considered Thirty or forty of their horses will come over to take part in our meeting Some of them are already here I noticed that cement paving does not seem to be a success there and they are running more and more to flagging stones which they can lay for about twentythree cents a square foot The frost seems to acton act-on the cement in some way My observations observa-tions convinced me that we here should use the flagstones that are to be had in such plenty on John W Youngs railroad Another thing that told me how Salt Lake filled the public eye there was the fact that we had to be on hand at the newsstands news-stands when the maillot in or we couldnt get a SALT LAKE HERALD Myself and other Salt Lakers staying at the Albany used togo to-go to the news dealers regularly but if we waitfld an hour or two after the mail got in TiE HERALDS were always gone |
