city has been prosperous quite an abundance of ater and very good crops What also has been of great benefit to the place indeed almost the life of it has been tho putting in of a water system for the use of tho inhabitants of tho city J furnishing nishing them an abundant supply of good pure mountain water for culinary purposes pur-poses Tho water is being brought from a large beautiful cold spring one mile from he southern part of tho city On tho hill immediately to tho south of the city we put in a large tank 2ox40 feet and 124 feet in depth blasted out of solid rock inside of which Is built an IS inch con rete wall thoroughly plastered and all of the best I Portland cement The walling and cementing of the tanks was done by Elias Morris of Salt Lake cityThe The tank is also closely roofed in and I made secure will no doubt answer the I purpose of its design for a great length of time The fall from the spring to the tank is 120 feet and the fall from the tank to the lower or mouth end of the city is 230 feat eotSix Six miles of mains have been laid and over twenty service pipes also before the water was turned on One mile abovo the tank is laid with sewer pipe from eight to six inches in diameter Five miles of mains in the city of Puget Sound ironbound wood pipe from eight inches to two and inches in diameter rho work has been done under the en ineering of F M Lyman jr David James of Salt Lake city has furnished all the material pipes plugs hydrants etc and has put in the entire works The putting in the system has furnished a great amount 01 work for many men in this city It has been just 100 days today since the first blow was struck and the first shovel ful of earth removed on this undertaking The men who have boon most energetic in the accomplishment of the work and are the directors are Francis M Lyman Alex Herron George F Richards H S Gowans Peter A Droubay Fiancis 1 Lyman jr and John Gillespie In times past particularly in the summer sum-mer season tho people have been of neces aity compelled to use water more or less filthy but with this water system running through every street in the city north and south eat and west every family at a nominal cost may be supplied with good pure water summer and winter the price being but about one half a much as is usual in other cities the following being ho cost per year For family use So washing vehicles each watering horses or horn stock 50 cents per head sheep 10 cents per head and all other service in proportion Whether the enterprise will be immediately immedi-ately patronized so a to pay interest on the investment or not remains to be seen he cost of the system not being less than 1S000 But it is a fact that the work is complete the water in and for the people and was so proclaimed on this day at tho public celebration by Apostle Francis M Lyman There has also been another water sys tern put in near here this season Mr Moses Bruneau a Frenchman owns a ranch about three miles east from Tooeio City on the Dry bench He has mourned much for water and searched the hill for prospects At length he located water in one of the most unlikely and forbidding places imaginable places among the rocks It is true that at certain seasons of the tuet ttc u year u smuii seepage 01 water mignt oe l seen and after digging blasting and tunneling tun-neling some distance in solid rock ho succeeded suc-ceeded in getting a fine stream of excellent water and in bringing it to his ranch a distance of two miles in a fourinch pipe Seemingly about as muchwater as tho pipe can carry is discharged at his ranch Tho fall is about one hundred feet The work has been done at a cost of 51500 and has added to the value of his place at least 5000 Mr Bruneau says that the story of his ancient namesake smiting the rock and bringing forth water is no longer a mystery mys-tery having himself smote tho rock and obtained a sufficient amount of water to have quenched the thirst of the entire camp of IsraelI Israel-I hone others may be induced to exercise as much faith a the Frenchman and be a successful No doubt much water will bo obtained by like processes for the mountains moun-tains contain much of it as well as of other good things 49fiR Kajsvllle Kinks Kaysville was well represented at Syracuse Syra-cuse yesterday Dr Hodges was up from Salt Lake on professional business last
