Show HAD A GASH IN HIS THROAT A Dane Gets a Big Jag and into Serious Trouble Other Layton Notes On the evening of the 19th the attention of a large crowd was attracted by the action of sm old grayhaired Dane with a light onehorse buggy who seemed to be engaged in the futile attdmpt of trying to monopolize the county road near Layton He had locked horns with a load of wheat farther down tho road nearly demolishing the outfit and was now completely stranded against a telegraph pole It was seen that I he was carrying a full cargo of tanglefoot After several vain attempts to hitch his horse to the front axle of his buggy now minus the shafts he was finally persuaded to give it up and a few moments later Was sleeping the sleep of the drunken That night ho was taken out of the road by a good Samaritan to a more safe place The next morning he was missing and inquiry could throw no light on his whereabouts Last night about 0 oclock he turned up again with a large gash in his throat he had evidently been trying to kill himself and had his knife not been as dull as his wits he would have succeeded Tho old man speaks nothing but a bad sample of Danish whicii fact was against much interchange of ideas and we couldnt learn where his home is but it is thought ho comes from Hooperville It is very likely his first spree in this country Would recommend that before he tries another an-other he make a thorough study of tho tricky methods of American whisky then he will not be sj likely to cut his own throat under the impression that he is decapitating de-capitating a boa constrictor There have been about forty cars of wheat sold at this point already much of which is shipped and the rest awaiting cars for shipment This only represents a small part of the surplus crop as it comes from the machine Many people vefuse to sell at present prices although they are fully as high as any in the Utah market Some of the wheat goes to Colorado where although they seem to have a plentiful crop there is a demand for our class of grain at a higher price Mr D K Egbert our nursery man argues ar-gues with convincing logic that he has the best location for a nursery and vegetable garden in Utah Situated on the southern slope bf the ridge he gets the full benefit of the sun where he most needs it for forcing in the spring Ho is within a short distance dis-tance of the canal and in addition has the advantage of a natural reservoir forty acres with which he can bid defiance to Weber river These advantages together with a nice light soil and closo proximity to a good market certainly sustain Mr EgI berts assertion In five years his business will be known outside of Layton and Davis county BELASCO LAYTOX August 21 1890 |
