Show Director of the 3IInt Leech Explains CHICAGO May 12A dispatch from Washington says Director of the Mint Leech said the interview with him about the alleged silver corner Saturday conveyed an erroneous impression What I he did say was that silver was I being bought in London and shipped to this country and deposited in the assay I office in New York for fine bars which are being stored by private parties The government gov-ernment has bought no silver in London nor has it stored any silver in the west It is not storing silver at all and of course I is not issuing certificates silver certifcates on siver bullion Las L-as there is no law authorizing such issue I did say that but little silver was being offered to the government for sale and L that at a price considerably above the maaket price and above the price at which certificates on silver bullion deposited de-posited in western national banks aro be ing sold in New York In regard to the coiner in silver I said I did not know any thing about it |
