council met in regular session Wednesday evening last with Mayor Gregor and Aldermen Kimball McDon ough Williamson and Lockhart and Berry present The minutes of the previous meeting were read and mitteee on finance and were approved by them and ordered placed on file The committed on claims and accounts and appropriations reported on all bills and payrolls and warrants were ordered drawn for the respective amounts M M Will and Joseph Dye presented petitions for the appointment to position policeman in the place of S Johnson re esigned On motion of Lockhart the petitions peti-tions were tabled pending the report of the committee on police A communication was received from David Da-vid Coulson in which he agreed to decid the matter of price of purchase of the part of his property needed for Woodside ave nueby arbitration Tho mayor and committee com-mittee on streets alleys and bridges were authorized to appoint an arbitrator for the city The committee had commenced condemnatory con-demnatory proceedings In the Third Dis trici court to secura this property but it IS quite likely the case will be withdrawn The resignation of O Johnson as policeman po-liceman was presented and on motion of Williamson was accepted The city attorney reported that the title to the property claimed by Mrs Nelson through which the new road to the cemetery ceme-tery was made was found to be in the name of the Ontario Silver Mining company com-pany and that he had been informed by R C Chambers that he Chambers had begun proceedings against Mrs Nelson to quiet the title This practically settles this question in so far as tho city is conrernec unless it so happens that Mrs Nelson defeats de-feats the Ontario company in the suit referred re-ferred to which is not at all probable The estimates on the proposed water works plant made by Engineer Bryant were next read and are summarized as follows lows These estimates are for system running from Island Lake to Park City This estimate is for 20 spiral riveted asphaltcoated wrought iron pipe Birmingham Bir-mingham wire gauge For the same pipe No 18the cost would be 32445 and for castiron pipe would be 38508 To each of these estimates large per cent should be added to be perfectly safe According to the specifications the inlet crib Is to be six feet square and four ana an-a half feet high located within the source of supply At the outlet of the lake IB to be dam and headgate for raising the level of I 1 > ii 1 water and controlling the outflow The dam is to be six feet wide on top and seven feet above the outlet of the channel The pipo line is to consist of approximate lengths of 9000 feet of sixinch pipe 6700 feet of fiveInch pipe and 0900feet of four inch pipe The reservoir is to be 100 feet long and SO feet wide at the top with semicircular circular ends radius 40 feet and 20 feet deep Bottom and sides are to be paved with a layer of cobble stones averaging six inches upon which is to be a layer of concrete six inches thick and the whole toe to-e finished by t a smooth coating of Portland cement mortar The specifications are very complete and lengthy and only an idea can be given When adopted by the council it will DO proper time for their publication in full The estimates and plans were referred to the committee on fIre and water after which the council adjourned GENERAL AND PERSONAL Dr drain tunnel is now in 6100 feet Some trouble is being given by the water Work is progressing nicely at the Daly No2 shaft It has now reached a depth of 100 feet At the Ontario No2 shaft the depth is 1511 feet Tho work of sinking for a sump is now going on The Ontario mill shipped this week twentyseven bars of silver bullion containing con-taining 15748 fine ounces The Anchor is moving along as usual All the machinery has arrived for use in connection con-nection with the Rand compressor and it will be started next week The lessees of the Apex put four men to woric this week and will only
