Show I A RIOT OIST A TRAIN Hallway Men Eject a Party of I Scabs Irora a Car They Are Driven into I nwamp and Have a Narrow Escape Their Baggage Cut to s > hreds LITTLC ROCK Ark Tan 1There was great excitement in railroad circles here today to-day over the ejection a carload of scab railway employees en route from Indianapolis India-napolis and Louisville to relieve the strike on the San Antonio Arkansas Pass road The railway men had learned of their cornIng corn-ing and when the train arrived a large crowd was congregated at the depot One man shouted to Cut the hose and drop the car out and the brake hose was severed in an instant When the train started up tbe mob having failed to disconnect the engineers en-gineers signal cord the bell in the cab rang and the train stopped again By this time all the engine whistles in the yard began to blow and it seemed as thongh bedlam hae broken loose A hundred men rushed into the sleeper driving the occupants some forty telegraph operators machinists and train hands from the car and into the swamps near by Most of them were I I driven into a pond through which they floundered followed by the infuriated menThe men-The sleeper was recoupled to the train I and it crossed the river into Little Rock where another crowd of men boarded it and with knives cut to the shreds all the baggage of the unfortunate men J I H Littlefield who was in charge of the 1 party of new men with several of his companions com-panions escaped and took the train for I Texas while ethers of the party are still hidine in the swamps awaiting un opportunity oppor-tunity to escape The railroad authorities at the action of their are enraged employees I em-ployees The various railroad labor unions are strong in sympathy with the striking brethren in Texas and it is a wonder the I new men escaped severe personal injuries |
