Show AMUSEMENTS THE EObTONI S IN SUSETTE One could almost imaginc that it was a week instead of a season that had passed i since we had that bright and capable set of performers the Bostonians singing from the opera house boards Nothing seems changed the peachy Bartlett Davis is as lovely and blithe of voice and manner as when she first sang her way into our hearts Marie Stone chirps and trills with what seems to be perennial freshness and juven ility MacDonald the handsome light bar tone doesnt look a day older Frothing hams only change is a change of makeup and Hoff barring a little listlessness on account ac-count of a recent illness was as good as before while chorus and orchestra or-chestra moved together in the same tuneful precision that ever distinguished distin-guished their performances The audience was large aud fashionable not jammed somehow there seems to be a feeling that we have had a little too much of a run on dollar and a half attractions lately and it seemed to find a constant source of delight iA the cuteness of Suzette Miss Stone and in the light and graceful movements of the work We dont think as much of the opera I as those who rendered it its libretto is ingenious in-genious and its idea funny but it is altogether alto-gether more on the slangy order than any thing we have been accustomed to be furnished fur-nished from the Don ton Bostonians the music is for the most part light and bright but never very ambitious One obtains the idea that the composer was a novicea clever one undoubtedlyand that he made plenty of opportunities but that he hardly knew how to avail himself of them But the Bostonians are so handsome and finished and everything they do bears the stamp of thorough that they could ren der a threeact dirge and make it a go They did not have their full strength out last night either Tom Karl the tenor and Barnabee the unctions commedian with young Juliette Cordon tho young soprano were a reserved for this even ing when Aubers romantic opera Fra Diavolo will be given with tha following strong cast gven Fra Diavolo Tom Karl Lord AHcash hH C Barnabeo Lady Allcasb Josephine Alcash UnU Bartlett Lorenzo Edwin W Hoft Hof Beppo n Eugene Cowles Glacomo George FrothinRham Irothlngham JIaltco Fred Dixon Zerlina Juliette Corden TiE GREAT METROPOLIS engagement at the theatre opens tomorrow tomor-row night The sale begins today DELI BY Tu ENEMY Seats for the Home clubs four night season will be on sale Thursday TO AMATEUR INSTRUMENTALISTS A desire having been expressed by some of the leading amateur musicians of this city to organize into an orchestra and iden tify themselves with some choral organization organi-zation that would give practice to them in the higher class of music the Salt Lake Choral society hereby extends to all such a hearty invitation to join them at once in their contemplated festival work and arrangements rangements will be made whereby they can meet by themselves and rehearse the work under the direction of Professor E W Kent To effect an organization at once all desiring to join are requested to communicate by letter with Professor E W Kent Calders music palace during the coming week giving their address and name of instrument They will then be notified by postal card of the time and place of first meeting At all public per formances of the choral society this orchestra or-chestra will be assisted by the best pro fessional talent in the city Mrs Pugsley and Mr Easton charmed the choral society with a duet from La Traviata last evening |
