Show Cars Tied Up The street railway situation is in a very 4 peculiar mood at present After all the midnight lights and talk of immediate electric elec-tric railway service in Ogden it is inevit i able that the pesky mule and the rusty motor will for some time to come be the only means of locomotion on our street railways For a time it was thought the Ogden City railway would be electrically equipped by the lirst of January The JarvisConklm Mortgage Trust company trustees for the bondholders of the road have the wires strung and the system almost al-most ready for operation but all this work has seemingly been done f or naught as the decisions of the court were such that they were compelled to cease Mr Warren W Corey who was appointed ap-pointed receiver of the road by Judge Blackburn took possession of it yesterday 0 morning but not a wheel turned from the time he assumed control up to last evening A committee of employees waited upon him in the morning and informed him they would not go to their work until they were guaranteed their pay Mr Corey replied that he would not insure them anything with his own money They went to Mr Gilbert and asked him if he would tee that they received their pay to which he replied he had nothing to do with the road since it was in the hands of a receiver A HEUALD reporter called upon Mr Gilbert Gil-bert in his office in the First National bank building yesterday afternoon and found Mm busy paying off the employees up to datp drew on the bondholders for1500 this morning saidMr Gilbertto pay off these men I have everything paid up from the time the JarvisConklin Mortgage Trust company were appointed trustees for the bondholders to date and the public is welcome wel-come to come and look throughour books if j they think we have been squandering any of the funds I am real sorry continued Mr Gilbert to see the cars all stopped but I want the public to thoroughly understand that it was not any fault of mine The receiver re-ceiver took possession of the road this morning and that ended it as far as I am concerned I have no more connection with tho road than you have and I am glad I am outof it altogether Mr Corey hasfctaken hold of tho road and one of the first things he will have to do is to raise about 1500 There is hardly and feed at the barns for the mules and the supply of coal for the engines is exhausted There wasnt enough coal to start the motors this morning The receipts of the road will not much moro than pay for the hay and feed for the mules and the coal for the engines to say nothing of other expenses The engines are worn out and burn twice as much coal as they ought to In fact the whole outfit is worn out and will not stand two months more use As I said before I am sorry there are no cars running I am interested in seeing the growth of Ogden continue But if the people cant have first class street cars to accommodate them they will get disgusted and the town will become depopulated Judge Rhodes stated that one of the opposing oppos-ing attorneys informed him that it was the intention of the receiver to keep on using the present equipments instead of completing com-pleting the electric system Mr Corey was afterwards seen and when asked if he would make any effort to carry out the plans of JarvisConklm company the way of changing the road to an electric system ho replied he was acting under tho direction of the court and that tUe road would be run with its present facilities Some new men were secured at 5 oclock and a few mule cars were sent out |
