| Show PROVO POINTS The whirlwind which was set afloat by the IJngufrers antiboom issue of last Monday Mon-day is still whirling and it seems that an innocent in-nocent statement in my correspondence published in Tuesdays HERALD has been construed by one or two into an adoption or approval of the Enquirers position To put myself right and dispel that notion I wish to state that several squibs in the issue mentioned were a much deprecated by your correspondent as by any other citizen who has had tho interests of Provo at heart Several of said items were certainly cer-tainly not in good taste and in the opinion of a very great many not strictly in consonance con-sonance with tho facts And moreover the Enquirer in attempting to sustain its position by quoting the alleged opinion of representative citizens places itself in an unenviable light by inserting words that were never uttered and giving views of persons who were never approached on the subject I speak advisedly when I say this is true in one instance at least But the Enquirer is making amends for mistaken step It never was so newsy and solicitous for Provos welfare as it has been since its mistake of last Monday The Gazette too is forging ahead and doubling its efforts to please and what with the new Liberal paper about to bo established here and tho renewed zest of our existing ones a newspaper boom is upon us The street railway company yesterday bought the steel rails of the Rio Grande Western railway for two miles of track The ties are already on the streets and in a few days work will begin The Provo Commercial and Savings bank is just fitted up in a most elaborate and expensive manner The lettering on their window is perhaps the finest in the territory Payne Maiben removed yesterday and are demolishing their old building preparatory ingPnovo prepara-tory t erecting a threestory brick build W PROVO April 12 ISOO |
