Show VETOED OF COUKbfi Of course Governor THOMAS vetoed the bill fixing the tenure of office and changing the time of holding elections We say of course he did this because his party bosses commanded him to do it It didnt make any difference with him that for years he and his party have advocated just such a bill as this one At this particular juncture junc-ture tho bosses thought it would be to the disadvantage of their party to postpone until November the election in this city and that was sufficient argument With them that the bill should bo killed the host interests of a quarter of a million i people comprising the population of Utah being as nothing compared with the wishes of an anomalous political organization in Salt Lake city The commands of the bosses > also were equivalent to a veto the governor gov-ernor being ready on a moments notice to stultify himself when bidden to it by those he recognizes as masters The bill has been defeated and elections will continue as heretofore four occurring in this city this year three next year four the following year and so on The community must be kept in a state of turmoil tur-moil and political strifo from January to December one campaign no sooner closing than another opens Thousands of dollars must be expended annually for election expenses ex-penses and the time of the citizens wasted in incessant voting and all because a few political bosses have strings on the governor gov-ernor which control him absolut y It is observed that the pee wee executive tells the legislature the kind of a bill that he will approve TIlE HERALD trusts the I lawmakers will think too much of themselves I them-selves to pay any attention to his suggos I tions but if the solons do confess by accepting ac-cepting his dictation tho governor and not they know best what the people want it ito i-to be hoped that they will take the precaution precau-tion before passing the bill to place TDOMA under bonds to approve it otherwise his bosses might change their minds when the work of the legislature would be throwaway throw-away Or perhaps it would be safer to consult those bosses and get their consent without taking the governor into account |
