Show THE DRUMMER BOY OFSHILOH A Play is Presented in lich Ball Cartridges Are Used by Mistake Special t THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch HOLYOKE Mass March 25 Members of company com-pany D of the Second mounted volunteers produced pro-duced a play The Drummer Boj of Shiloh at East Hampton Saturday and during the battle scene Frank Snyder of the unionists was wounded in the head by the rifle of one of the confederates He now lies at home in a dangerous condition The wonder Is that the mimic battle did not become a scene of carnage as it was found that one out of every three cartridges car-tridges was loaded with ball The cartridges were of twentytwo grains and < had been used for target shooting in the armory and had in some way got mixed in a box of blanks The only thing that saved the others from Snyders fate was an order to shoot over the heads which was given just before the charge Tho ball that wounded Snyder cut through the visor of the cap of the man who stood next him The walls were riddled with balls and a piece of wood three inches square was cut off by a ball |
