Show AMUSEMENIS JOHN MUBPHY NOT Jo We appear I before the public this morning in the character of an apologist Seeing Jo I Murphys two patented plays The I Kerry Gow and Shaun Rhue billed over I the name of J S Murphy with Jos genial face or what looKed very much like it smiling from the bill boardswe not unnaturally jumped to the conclusion con-clusion that here was Jo himself him-self come iback again and we took pleasure In so announcing it last Sunday morning The consequence was the Theatre was well filled last evening with old timers and new timers who came out to show how Salt Lake recollects her old friends The result was somewhat surprising and disappointing disap-pointing It appears that Jo has an elder brother named John who seems to take good care only to bill himself him-self as J S and it was John not Jo who stepped out from the wings last evening and smilingly smil-ingly receivea the vociferous plaudits of his audience John is the elder actor ac-tor but he is not the better he is too old to be playing the part of an Irish boy in the first place and were he twenty years younger he does not ap near to have the style vivacity and dash for a part fashioned and copied so entirely often the Shaughran and others of Boucicaults wild Irish lads As for the support the least said the better why Miss AnnMortland should be given the destination of having her name in raised type on the bills perhaps per-haps the manager can explainwe cannot we have had too some pretty melancholy specimens of the genius villain in our time but the villain of Mr Wiedman rather lays over anything any-thing which it has been our lot to seeThe see-The sensational and emotional effects were immensely enjoyed by the galleries gal-leries who will doubtless be on hand in force to see the piece tonight |
