Show The Pacific Short Line The proposed Pacific Short Line from Sioux City Iowa to Ogden in regard to which there has been so much of mystery and uncertainty is now positively asserted to be intended as an extension of the Central Cen-tral Pacific and to be financially backed by that interest a statement not difficult to to believe in view of the active movement toward the Pacific coast now inaugurated by the Union Pacific says the Railway Age f In fact the Southern Pacific has long contemplated con-templated an extension to the Missouri river in order to open independent connection connec-tion with the east and the line from Ogden I to Sioux City is considerably shorter than any other and at the latter point it will soon have full as many and important connections con-nections as the Union Pacific now has at Omaha The Illinois Central and Chicago NorthWestern systems are already at Sioux City the Manitoba is about reaching there from the north by means of the new Sioux City Northern the Missouri Pacific Pa-cific is reported to contemplate an extension exten-sion of its Nebraska line to that place to meet the Manitoba and President Cable is reported as saying that the Rock Island will build to Sioux City to meet the extension exten-sion of the Central Pacific which is to be finished before the end of 1890 These are extremely important movements and indicate indi-cate that radical changes are at hand in the transportation of transcontinental business busi-ness will very seriously affect not only the railways cen ring at Chicago but several of the important localities in the west and northwest |
