be of no present or great disadvantage to this company and that the change mignt nov be agreeable to j our honorable honor-able bodj m behalf of the city we have informally infor-mally proposed to the Salt Lai e Power Light and Heating companj to light for us the streets with their electric arc light which are now lighted with gas the said are lights to be kept going during the same hours as the gas lamps and for us to pay them the same price per month as the city now pav s us for lighting the same area with gas on the basis of placing one arc light at the intersection of each stieet in the large blocks provided the city would agree for us to male the change To this that company replied that it would in vohe an outlay of about 5 lJOO for material tope to-pe orm the work and that they would hardly eel justified in going to that efpense unless they were able to obtain a suitable contract for a period of ten years Being unable to meet the views of that com pmy ai to that period of time on account of the omparatively proximate termination of our street lighting contract with the corporation of Salt Lai e city w e beg eave to inform your hon rable bodj that this company will not on account ac-count of said contract object to the city s deal ngdirectlv with that company in the matter of street lighting as above set forth nor make any claim for breach of the contrict now lamps to an evident ail anta e because ot its brilliance although at a cost greatly exceeding ex-ceeding that of the gas lamps previously in use nd being of opinion that a similar change here n i t lhf fat f ould b < > an impov ement acceptable to the city at the present time if not at too great a cost respectfully re-spectfully ask jour honorable body to allow this company to sabstitute the has figured prospectively of paving your streets wiu asphaltum wo wish to state that we hare knowledge of the asphaltum beds in this vicinity A bed ot asphaltum has been held from the knowledge of the public until such time that the North American asphalt company would de relop the merits of this kind of property The property owned by the said company was sold by the same party now owning the asphalt bed in question This bed is within a half mile of the Denver i Rio Grande railroad easy of access and we believe be-lieve superior In quality containing the necessary neces-sary proportions for pavements This wo believe be-lieve can be secured at a nominal price knowing know-ing the circumstances of the party owning the same The bed ranges in thickness from eight to twenty feet in an undisturbed localitj natural water power directly In front of the property easy grade We b liere SaltLake city would be greatly benefited bene-fited by receiving tnis property and have taken this
