Show JUDICIAL MATTERS Registrar Morris Found Guilty of Battery IN THE THIRD DISTRICT COURT Another Suit Brought Against Eothschilds to Compel Paymentlof Real Estate Com missionOther Matters The case of the city vs Morris the combative registrar of the Third precinct of this city was taken up in the police court before Justice Pyper shorty after 10 oclock yesterday morning The defendant represented himself at the beginning but finding it up hill work an attorney came this t-his relief but the progress made afterward toward a satisfactory defence was not more noticeable no-ticeable than formerly It was shown con elusively that he saw the complaining witness on the opposite side of the street from his residence came out followed fol-lowed and overtook him and after asking him an impertinent question which complainant com-plainant properly declined to answer and using abusive and insulting language he struck complainant com-plainant violently on the forehead causing him to stagger He vainly tried to justiy himself because of some one having told him that some one else had said that there was no doubt about the assaulted man being a spy on his track though why or for what reason did not appear It was not shown that the injured part had ever put himself in Morris way and when the defendant tried to get back of the record und begin some political ttuff ho vas met with a qucl 1 iiuject from the prosecution which shut him on There seemed little question that party rancor and nothing else was at the bottom of the trouble but apart from this the assault was wholly unprovoked The justice found him guilty and assessed a tine of 415 and costs 823 in all which was paid Light enough surely |
