Show Mr Garrett and His Affairs NEW YORK October 22Robert Gar rett late president of the Baltimore Ohio Railroad Company leaves in the morning for a trip to Mexico and the west He will go via Chicago and will beaccompanied by Mrs Garrett and two or three friends Some of his New York friends went down to Baltimore today to see him off This occasion was brought up for condemning some of the publications recently made in two or three papers reflecting on Mr Garretts personal business habits They were pronounced quite gross exaggera tions and largely untrue Mr D H Bates in conversation denied de-nied the statement which had been sv eral times made that the Baltimore Ohio Telegraph Company had been an I item of expense to the railroad of 50 000 a month for the past forty years He said there had been no losses what ver up to last April Since then influ ences largely beyond telegraphic con trol have caused a falling off but the entire loss for the last clx months has been less than the amount paid over during the same period by the railroad for the use of wires and offices on its lines |
