Show FLASH IN THE PAN The Vigilant Deputies Make Another Ano-ther Mistake Yesterday morning about daylight Thomas Brunker was arrested by Deputy Vandercook on a complaint sworn to by D W Reach and which charged him with having violated the Eumunds law At 10 oclock Mr Brunker with a number of witnesses appeared before Commissioner McKay and when the complaint had been read to him he entered a plea of not guilty Mo Je appeared in behalf of the defendant defend-ant while Dickson was the prosecutor The first witness wasMrs Thomas Brunker the lawful wife of the defendant defend-ant She had been married to him 47 years during the past three years he had lived > yith her exclusively He had been married to his second wife about 20 years she had visited witness house several times and the defendant provided pro-vided for her Elizabeth A H Brunker the plural wife was called She was not present in the room and the defendant I asked permission to go and secure her attendance His request was granted and he soon returned The lady was then sworn and gave in substance the following testimony She had married defendant many years ago but for the last five or six years they had not lived together as man and wife Brunker had provided for her and visited her house occasionally but that was all The Commissioner ordered the discharge dis-charge of the defendant and spurred up the deputies a little on their actions in bringing people before him without any evidence that would hold them |
