Show THE U N No Public Announcement Made of a Change in Time A week has passed since definite and reliable announcement was made that the matter of affording more satisfactory satis-factory railway accommodations for the people on the line of the Utah and Northern was being considered To this time no public knowledge obtains of any determination on the part of railway officials to afford the relief so necessary and so unquestionably unques-tionably just to the people of Northern Utah and Southern Idaho A report seemingly well founded wes in undercurrent under-current circulation on Friday night that by December 1st a special train would be put on for the convenience of local patrons of the Utah and Northern This train it was reported would leave Ogden every morning on the arrival of the 803 train from Salt Lake and make a good runsay 4 hours and 40 minutes to Battle Creek and return to Ogden the same night If this report be true it will give a great impetus to the traffic to Logan which is even now the best paying business on the line and it would give impetus because travelers could leave Salt Lake in the morning reach Logan about noon spend all the way from three to six hours there and if necessary or desirable return to Salt Lake the same night 3 < Under the present arrangements it If takes four days for a letter from Salt Lake to go to Logan and the answer to return to this city Four days for the mails on the line of a railroad to travel less than 200 miles There is little doubt that the officials will make a change but the hardships of the new timecard on which trains run is quadrupled by the severity of winter which seems to have started in dead earnest and certainly if relief is to be offered patrons of the Utah Northern it cannot come too soon The announcement that the report ot a special train to be run from Ogden daily to Battle Creek and return will be hailed with infinite satisfaction by all personstrainmen and travelers almost we believe without exception Amore A-more universally unpopular move than the changing to its present condition condi-tion of the Utah Northern time table has hardly ever been done by the Union Pacific and this is saying a good deal If the management of the Utah Northern could see the letters of which THE HERALD is in receipt complaining of the time of running trains and hear the indignation of prominent and valuable patrons of the road they would require little farther proof to convince them that the putting on of a special local train would be as popular as the change made in the time on the 13th inst was unpopular What gives basis to the report that a special train is to be put on and run as stated is the statenent and it is reliable re-liable that word was sent to train men in Logan to interview business men in that city as to what they wanted in the way of accommodation and trains would be carded to suit the general desire de-sire It is hardly probable that the general desire has not been voiced and if it has and the offer holds good we may expect any day to hear that the t report above quoted is correct and that a special tram will carry the mails north in the morning and hurry passengers on This local train once on and Cache Valley will hardly have grievous cause for complaint as the traffic from settlement to settlement I will be amply provided for |
