Show STEALING MONTANA Unless the Democrats of Montana can induce the courts or some other power to aid them in the prevention of the steal the new state will go into the union as Republican Repub-lican its Congressional Representative and two Senators and all the state officers save the governor being of that political faith A dispatch from Helena in this Issue of Tac HKKILD says the state board of canvassers mot on Monday and finished tho canvass of the votes The board accepted ac-cepted the returns sfnt up by the county board of Silver Bow thus excluding tho vote of Tunnel precinct and giving the legislative delegation of the county to tho Republicans As Judge Da WOLFE last week issued a mandamus directing direct-ing the canvass of the Tunnel votes it looks as if the state hoard were defying the court in their determination determina-tion to capture the state If the Courts cannot command respect for the Jaw nor enforce ooodienca to their decrees there may bo one other way to prevent in part the consummatiou of this theft The governor gov-ernor is a Democrat and a courageous ono and he take it into his head to may recognize recog-nize only the legislators who have been I duly elected as shown by actual majoics j of the votes cast It is possible for him to do this in which event tho Republicans would find themselves an uurawfulbodyj without power to even organize Th circumstances it seems to us would almost warrant the governor in heroically taking tho bull by the horns as suggested and the better class of Montana Mon-tana people would support him in his at tempt to save the new state which is i threatened with commencing her career with the brand of fraud upon her brow In thiaconnection there is an ugly probability proba-bility looming up which is nothing less than a delay in the admission of Montana to the union As the case now stands she cannot be certified to the President with a clean record and while there is a doubt as to the legality of the proceedings by which she is to be admitted the President ought to withhold the proclamation which alone stands between the territory and qtnthhnnii |
