Show Details of a Mob Trial KANSAS CIT Sept 2A special dispatch dis-patch from El Dorado to the Times sajs The details qf the mob trial under lynch law of Alonzo Edwards and his wife at Rosalia for the alleged murder of Henry Bldbmers threeyearold child as detailed in thesedispatches Saturday night are of most revolting character and reveal a story of inhuman treatment seldom met with even 611 the border The child it appear was left in care of Mr and Mrs Edwards while Bloomer and his wife went to work in tho fields last Tuesday That evening the child was missing miss-ing and search by the neighbors Wednesday Wednes-day and Thursday failed to reveal any trace of its whereabouts Mr and Mrs Edwards were not sufficiently active in the search to satisfy the minds of some of tho neighbors and consequently suspicion was aoused and finally a mob took cimrgc of them one portion taking Edwards and the other his wife Mrs Edwards is a woman of very nervous disposition and when commanded to confess tne crime under penalty of hanging if she did not she final said she bad killed she child accidentally and that the body was in the creek Search failed to reveal it I when she was again taken to the nearest tree and having no I statements to make was pulled up and suspended in the air until Her face was black She was then lowered and when brought to the leader he told her if she did not tel the truth she would be hantred until dead and her husband burned at the stake The woman was too badly frightened to spealc and assuming her silence to be voluntary vol-untary the mob again suspended her until nearly dead After reviewing her they were about to draw her up again when the father of the missing child interfered saying say-ing that if they killed her the body of his child could not be found She was then paced under guard In the meantime that portion of the mob which had Edwards in charge attempted to extort a confesion from him He too protested his innocence and was strung up twice until nearly dead Friday night the prisoners were placed in jai here From that time until this morning a mob varying from five hundred to fifteen hundred has continually surrounded sur-rounded the jai clamoring for the lives of the Edwards The sheriff has kept them at bay Ear this morning the missing child was found alive and well sitting on the doorstep of u farmer near Rosalia Where it has been all the time is a mystery I is supposed it was kidnapped and returned re-turned when found what excitement its disappearance was causing Mr and Mrs Edwards have been released re-leased They are still suffering from the effects of the harsh treatment they received re-ceived and an attempt will be made to prosecute the leaders of the mob |
