| Show The Present Crusade To the Editor of TIlE HERALD I have been in the United States thirty four years have belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints from my childhood I first received a knowledge of the government and its workings from the lat James W Cummings I have heard him explain in England the constitution constitu-tion and that it was obligatory on tho Mormon Mor-mon people to uphold and sustain its principles prin-ciples as the constitution was as much an inspired instrument and was as sacred as anything in holy writ I came to Utah twentyeight ears ago I was personally acquainted with the late Presidents Young a id Taylor I heard President Young say at the time that Slidel Mason and Judah P Benjamin were taken from the British steamer Trent that if he was in President Lincolns place ho would hang them as traitors to the best government the world h the Endowment ever saw I have been through ment house and remember the covenants and hat tu re been anything that wOUld hail cast anv reflections on the government govern-ment of the United States I would have informed the proper authorities Vould it not he a good plan to bring some of Utahs best crop whose fathers have taught them to fight the government Many thousands of young men and women aro around us who were born here and their parents made covenants to live lives of purity and holiness Surely if the terrible oaths were taken which the Liberals want to make the government believe there must oe thousands thou-sands of young men who would testify of the facts and bring out the truth I can say that if I were brought face to face with the great Jehovah I never havo been Uumaujtbiug contrary 10 tho principles of good government and I owe et cry thing I have to the good and free government of the United States and I call God to witness wit-ness that I ever will in the future as I have in the past use my earnest endeavor to perpetuate our government that my children and their children for all generations genera-tions to como may have as much liberty as I have enjoyed under the blessed Star Spangled Banner God bless our country and may every land pattern after ours until un-til freedoms song shall bo sung in every laud and in every tonffue SEA |
