Show CHAIRMAN QUAY of the Republican Committee has assessed the manufacturers manufact-urers of Philadelphia and Pittsburg an even half a million dollars for campaign purposes and they are said to be coming com-ing up with the money in fine shape These manufacturers are all protected pro-tected by the high tariff tax Now iII iI-I protection is a good thing for American workingmen and not for American manufacturers why didnt Mr Quay assess the laboring men of Philadelphia and Pittsburg instead of their employers em-ployers If the high tariff helps the toiler why does Quay go to manufacturing monopolists for campaign cam-paign funds with which to perpetuate the protection tax These employers are not in the habit of spending money for the benefit of their men On the contrary they grind the men down to the lowest possible wages and when Americans protest and revolt because they cannot live on the pay the em ploye33 send across the ocean for fellows fel-lows who will work for starvation wages |
