Show inA A Pretty Present The Chamber of Commerce yesterday yester-day was the recipient ot a pretty present i pres-ent in the shape of an oil painting owned by Mr John H White arid painted by Mr H L A Calmer The subject is one of those mountain scenes for which Utah is famed and is to be found at the head of Logan Canyon It is Lake Magog nestled in a hollow between be-tween the mountains Gog and Magog at an altitude of 9900 feet above sea level The execution stamps the work as that of an artist In the background looms up a rugged jagged mountain which is considered the nearest approach ap-proach to a living glacier Utah The centre is lightened by the shining of the sun upon the bluff tops below with here and there deposits of snow clumps of trees and patches of green The foreground fore-ground is made up of a small park of firs and the dark waters of the lake around whose edges are mosscovered rooks and on whose surface are reflected the trees and grass on the banks The blendings of the colorings and shadings is a rare exhibition of taste and skill The picture is set in a neat gilded frame and will prove an attractive ornament Ito I-to the walls of the Chamber 1 |
