Show FIFTIETH CONGRESS SENATE WASHIKGTON September 26The bill reported by Hoar on the 6th of February Febru-ary last to provide for inquests under the national authority was taken tip and George proceeded to address the I Senate on the subject After reviewing the origin and history of African slavery and the causes leading up to the war Mr George gave a detail of the political situation in Mississippi from the days of the reconstruction to the present time At the conclusion of his speech the bill went over without action Daniels addressed the Senate on tbe resolution to refer the Presidents annual an-nual message He said the Democracy had written on ia banners unnecessary unneces-sary taxation is unjust taxation and under that sign it would conquer or fallA A committee of conference was ordered or-dered on the deficiency Dill and Senators Sena-tors Hale Allison and CocErell were appointed The Senate then adjourned HOUSE Forney of Alabama presented the conference report on the sundry civil appropriation bill Laid over The committee on public lands reported re-ported and the House passed without debate a bill to forfeit certain lands granted the Northern Pacific Railroad It provides that all lands granted the Northern Pacific by the act of July 2 1862 except such as are adjacent to am coterminal with the road constructed prior to July 4th 1879 except the right of way through the remainder of the route including the necessary grounds for station buildings etc i excepting also tbe lands included within the 1 mils of any village town or city bed be-d clared forfeited and restored to the public domain because of the failure of the company to perform per-form the conditions on which the grant was made The forfeiture is not extended to lands adjacent to and coterminons with the completed road sold by the company prior to January 1st 1888 to bona fide purchasers for value but the title of such land is confirmed con-firmed upon condition that all persons claiming the benefit of this section shall within one year after the passage of this act file before the register and receiver of the proper land offices subject sub-ject to appeal to the Commissioner of the General Land Office proof of eooc faith in consideration of the date JIK extent of the purchase All settler upon forfeited lands are authorized to acquire title to not exceeding 160 acres under the homestead law The Senate joint resolution appropriating appropri-ating 100000 for the relietof the yellow fever sufferers passed with an amendment amend-ment making its object to prevent the spread of yellow fever and cholera The bill to donate arms and equipments equip-ments to Oregon for the use of militia of Adjourned that State was passed I |
