Show UTAH CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR A Territorial organization Perfected Per-fected Ytsterday Afternoon The first annual convention of the Utah Christian Endeavor Union began its session yesterday afternoon at the First Congressional Church in this city The convention was called to order at 4 pm by R ° v 1 Brainerd Thrall pasorof the ngresaional Church who was made the temporary chairman W H Kaufman of Coalville wag elected temporary secretary A committee com-mittee of three consis jog of Rev J E Hurlbut R J V Caskey and John Nelson were appointed by the chair to formulate formu-late a4d present to the convention a constitnrinr The coisitutiou of theM the-M sachuselts Christian Endeavor Union was present d and unanimous adopted by the assembly Rev E W Greene Dr Chaffs Grain and Charles G Wood were appointed ap-pointed a committee on permanent organzation and recommecdfcd that officers us follows be elected according to the provisions of the constitution President Rev J B Thrall pastor of the Congregational Church at Salt Lake City VicePresidents J E Hurlbut Salt Lake C ty Rev E W Greene Logan Lo-gan and Rev Frank Barnett Ogden Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer Trea-surer C H Parsons Salt Lake City District Secreiaries Rev E N Murphy Mount Pleasant Rev Fran Barnett Ogden xiev E W Greene Logan Rev W H Kaufman Coa villp Directors for two years Frnnk B Stephens Dr Charles Grain and Fed Bennett V Directors for one yearDavid Cashmere Cash-mere A D Th A bun and Frank Pierce Auditor Poessor Edward Banner The president then appoints Rev E W Greene scribe and Rev W H Kanfman assistant scribe after whkh the convention adjourned until 7 pm EVENING SESSION The seats in the church were well filled in the evening and considerable interest was manifested The exercises were opened by singing scripture lesson les-son and prayer by the Rev J L Arnold pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of this city after which an appropriate address of welcome wag delivered by Prof J F Milldpangn president of the Salt Lake local union which was responded to by Rev E W Greene of the Presuytripi Church at Logan This was followpo by a quartette rendered bv Prof E Bonner Mrs Kate Ashley Miss il rand r-and Professor I N Smith Th president Rev J Br i serd Thrall delivered the address of tne evening setting I forth in glowing language the mission of Cnris tian Endeavo in Utah The hymn of the young crusaders written especially es-pecially for the convention by Rev Thrall was pleasing and well rendered Messages of greeting frjm other State unions were received and read The exerc ses closed with musc by the choir and congregation and the benediction bene-diction The convention will reassemble at 8 oclock this morning and continue until 11 45 An afternoon session will be held from 2 15 to 5 af or which a sociable will be given unt 1 7 ocock The evening session will continue from 7 to 8 40 when the assemblage will adjourn 1 ad-journ sine die I |
