Show THE M INQUEST II I I A Verdict Beached at Last in the Case h HER DEATH HASTENED A DRG Supposed to Have Been Administered by the Hands of II B Beech So Say the Coroners Jury The coroners jury in the Yarn case convened con-vened at the city hall at 130 yesterday afternoon af-ternoon to hear any further evidence which might be brought before it No important im-portant additional features in the case were developed Charles E Monroe however how-ever was present in behalf of Mr Meech and again presented some of tho jreasbns why the jury should find a verdict of death by natural causes He stated that he had had no communicatiotjoi vfTh Meech by letter let-ter or by Uvire excepting one letter received re-ceived froth him at Omaha After some further conversation the1 jury retired Coroner Taylor then presented the following follow-ing i consensus of the testimony as heard with special reference to bringing out the prominent points to be tukeii into consideration consider-ation by the jury 1 bringing in their verdict ver-dict dictWe We have on record in the testimony before this inquest the following facts MrK M J Warn was ill She was attended by Dr Richards assisted by Ir lint She was cheerful and in a fair way t recovery in the opinion of both doctors when one H U Mecca gave her some drug immediate aftir taking which she had a sudden relapse frum which she never reros med Meerh was short of funds He was handling her property He had promised to marry her Wanted u will made in His favor He expected her to die though tho doctors thought her recovery assured After her wll had been madejignoring him he left suddenly and has not been seen since leaving lib cousin and prospective bride at the point of death Some time previous to her death Mrs War told Mrs Warburton thatshehad been poisoned Mrs Warburton believed that she had been poisoned Miss Thomas believedsho had been poisoned Drs Kithards and Hall believed I and Dr Benedict thought her death hastened by administration of some drug This evidence i > positive The fact that no poion was found i the bottles examined by Prof Hirsthing is negative nega-tive and not conclusive There are several other bottles which havo not been examined to say nothing of those in the satchel from which we are told the drug was taken As to the post mortem examination there are differences opinion concerning the deelop nipnts Dr Benedict gives us a sorry picture of lbs condition of the various organs and concludes con-cludes by stating that there wa ample cau e for death in her diseased cond ton referring particularly to the destruction of one of he kidneys He discovers no marked symptoms of poisoning although he admits that thsre are red specks apparent in the stomach which might indicate inflammation On the other hand Dr5 Hall anl Richards see nothing in the condition of her body to cause the sudden relapse re-lapse and the symptoms which accompanied it In support of this position they Instance cases where one kidney has been entirely removed and still the patient lived in health for years As to indications of poisoning all the physicians physi-cians 1 in saylnglthere IP t be drugs used which n a s cry short time w old bo entirely absorbed ab-sorbed u the system lea leg no perceptible traces The question now iri shall you pursue pur-sue this investigation fm thor in this direction or bring in a verdict bused on the facts now before you supplementing it by such suggestions sugges-tions as you deem necessary in regard to further authorities fur-ther prosecution of the case by the proper The jury then rendered the following verdict TiE VEIIDICT An Inquisition holden at the city hall in the Fifth precinct of Salt Lake city on the 5th day of Noverabf > rbefore George Tavlor coroner of said county upon the body of Mary Warn there lying dead by the jurors whose names are lyng hereunto subscribe 1 1 The said jurors on their oaths do sy that she died at her residence No UT6 Eighth East street in Salt Lake city at the hour of 130 pin p-in Monday the 2ith day of October AD 18SJ from the effects of causes to tho jury not clearly delined but in their opinion death was hastened B by Meeeh the effects of drugd administered by one H In testimony whereof the said jurors have hereunto set their hands the day and year above written J H PAUL GEOKE J TAYLOR JOhN A COMPTOM Coroner AuiEitr H BEMKNT Jurors |
