Show THEY A PEACEFUL The Oklahoma Boomers But the Army i A Ready IDAHO TO I V EW OFFICIALS Appointments of Chief Justice United States Marsha Etc Soon to be Made An Important Im-portant Land Case Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch WASHINGTON April 20A telegram was received at the war department yesterday afternoon from General Merritt commanding command-ing the department of the Missouri stating that he haa left his headquarters for the Oklahoma district and that arrangements were made for the prompt appearance of a large number of troops at any section of the district where trouble may arise The war department is not informed as to just what troops have been ordered to the scene of expected trouble but every confidence is felt in General Merritts ability to cope with any difficulty that may arise and that in ordering troops there has been exercised prudence and wisdom in selecting them and providing for their distribution after I arrival Tho officials of the land office are deluged with letters from every part of the country asking for information regarding Oklahoma Okla-homa Such has been the demand for information in-formation that large quantities of maps circulars of information and copies of the homestead laws have been printed From the arsenal which is kept supplied by the government printing office the assailed land officials draw their supplies of ammnnition and have ben able to keep up a rattling fire in return Incases In-cases where printed matter fails to answer every question a letter is written I is thought that everybody would be fully posted on the subject of Oklahoma The and office officials say however that there is one point that people generally do not seem to appreciate that is there are only some ten thousand quarter sections of land in Oklahoma and only ten thousand people can locate What the rest of the great multitude which is said to be ready to invade Oklahoma next week is going to do is a serious question All the books and plats have been forwarded for-warded to the new country and the land office will be ready for business when the time comes The land office has nothing more to do in regard to opening Oklahoma except to answer questions as stated That is being done at the rate of two or three nunarea per uay Mr H H I usk editor and proprietor of the Parsons Kansas Sun who is in Washington Wash-ington and who comes from tho border of the promise land does not share with army officers and others the fear expressed about serious trouble in Oklahoma This newspaper talk he says about bloodshed blood-shed in Oklahoma is greatly exaggerated There may be some bloodshed but not more than there usually is over land disputes dis-putes As a rule the people who will go I in there are lawabiding citizens |
