Show Oladstona on Irish Matter LONDOS Dec 3At the Manchester meeting today Gladstone inspired great enthusiasm by his definite exposition of the Liberal policy lie said Ireland is the leading question of the day and that theories the-ories would have been converted to the Liberal view of tho subject by this time but for a disciple of tho Liberals and tho split In the Liberal party and except for the personal ambition of some Tories and their ales who desired moro to form 1 natiqnal part than to do political justice He severely arraigned the Unionist leaders on this point and said the plan of campaign paign was the necessary consequence of the governments refnsiil to grant proper relief to Ireland There was ho said less crime In Ireland than In England He was i pf the optuiou that tho country had clearly I expressed a desire that there should be a chango in the administration of Ireland and the Liberals might look to the future with confidence Gladstone Glad-stone said the only reason for the existence of a dissident party is the antiIris feeling It was the curse of their destiny that they were chained to a wheel They must revolve or stop it and could not determine de-termine things for themselves It behooves be-hooves them to consider well their position in the light of the knowledge that with the settlement of the Irish question there will be an extinction of them as a party |
