Show The Bishop Inquest Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK May 23The inquest on Bishop was continued yesterday by Coroner Cor-oner Levy Dr Robertson being called Lawyer Atchison announced that he would examine him only with the understanding that he Could if necessary impeach the testimony tes-timony Witness had Bishop for a patient nine months in 18S7 Bishop was subject to hysterical epilepsy Epileptic and cataleptic cata-leptic symptoms are similar varying in different cases Bishop had an attack of epilepsy epi-lepsy in his office after an operation He was insensible with slight rigidity after brief convulsions Relaxation ensued after an hour The patient was in a comatose condition con-dition apparently dead The pulse and respiration res-piration were imperceptible The witness applied the usual tests and remedies A few weeks after Bishop had another epileptic epi-leptic fit the symptoms being frothing at the mouth He remained in this fit three hours After the first fit Bishop implied a fear of being buried alive The word autopsy au-topsy was notmentioned nor didthe witness hear Bishop say he had taken any precaution precau-tion against it Undertaker Hawks and his assistant testified that they saw nothing to indicate that Bishop was alive District Attorney Macdonald wanted to know who notified the board of health This elicted the fact that the board of vital statistics was not informed until after the autopsy Section 309 of the penal code prohibits the dissection of a human body without the consent of the relatives or under the direction direc-tion of the coroner |
