Show UTile Brooklyn Muiilclpal Abuse NEW YORK March 19The Legislative Legis-lative committee continued the investigation investi-gation into the Brooklyn municipal Abuses today James G Kelly of Kelly Bliss was called as a witness 3Le said that he was a speculator and resided in New York He admitted that he was a bookmaker and had speculating priviledes at the Sheep heaa Bay races owned by the Coney Isjand Jockey Club For these he paid 4000for each racing day On one day he paid 5000 He sublethis privileges to others In 1883 there were twenty five betting booths on the track in 1881 thirty in 1885 forty and in 1886 sixty He had krown as much as 50000 to go through one pool box as much as 20000 passed through his hands as bookmaker John R McKane of Grave < enG i > I was called and gave a history of Coney Island of which place he is chief of police He testified that at the Sheeps head Bay track and other tracks the i men employed were Pinkertons Witness Wit-ness had nothing to do with them He had as contractor put up about 80000 or 90000 worth of buildings for the Brooklyn Jockey Club He also put up 8000 or 9000 worth of buildings for the Brighton Beach association |
