Show r A JURY OBIAINED A Penitentiary inmate Secures an Extended Term The work of securing a petit jury for this term was resumed in Judge Zanes court yesterday morning by the calling call-ing of the following gentlemen who had beenserved on open venire James L Ellison Evan Morgan John J Wood Henry Carrigan F H Xelden J M Harvey M W Banks A Hanauer Jr J MDarling Frank B Shelley W A Rhodes L M Morrison Arthur Lowe Wm Glassman Samuel Gordon There appeared to be but one Mormon Mor-mon among the number Mr Morgan Mr Dickson put following question tohim Do you believe plural marriage to be a divine law He replied II Yes sirMB MB DICKSOX Are you willing to take an oath that you will not at any time hereafter obey that divine law MB MORGANI cannot consistently take that COUBT Yon will not swear that you will not at any time hereafter obey the revelation on polygamy MR MOBGAX cannot conscientiously conscien-tiously do so You are asking too much S S t COUFT You are excused Mr Morrison was not a resident of the district and was excused All the others were accept The chastity test oath was then read to the Whole twentyfive assembled A jury was impaneled and the first case takf nup It was that against the three Penitentiary birds Watrin Blowers and Williams who in attempting attempt-ing their famous escape last year took along a government pistol and gun and on being recaptured were indicted for the theftas if recapture wOre not sufficient hardship Mr Watrous defended de-fended the three men The result of the trial was that Watrin was found guilty and Blowers and Williams not guilty Watrins sentence will be pronounced pro-nounced on the 21st The accounts of the United States prosecuting attorney were approved John Allen was admitted to citizenship citizen-ship The two cases of assault against Richard Hook were dismissed Mr Dickson stating that the prosecuting witness could not be found The cases of the People vs Albert Bates and S A L Ludwig were of necessity continued because the defendants de-fendants were as yet not arrested |
