Show THE TIDWELLS PARDONED Thomas and FMBoth Released From the Pen On the recommendations of several I prominent and influential Salt Lakers and upon the petition of a large number num-ber of the residents of Emery County Governor West has pardoned Thomas Tidwell and F M Tidwell both of whom were serving out sentences for murderthe former six and a half and the latter five and a half years Below is the petition m the case of F M Tidwell the other is similar in tenor We your petitioners respectfully represent that if M Tidwell was on the 4th of December 1885 convicted of murder in the third degree in the First District Court for the killing of one Gus Sorenson and was sentenced to six years and three months imprisonment In the Utah Penitentiary We do not propose Ii give a detailed relation of the homicide homi-cide and circumstances connected with it as the necessary particulars are furnished fur-nished in the accompanying statement and letters which are respectfully submitted sub-mitted for your perusal We have good reason to believe that the act was done in selfdefense and the character of said Tidwell has always been that of a peaceable lawabiding citizen and also that his reputation is thus attested to by his neighbors today that in our opinion by some means or other nn no < vii to us the course of justice has erred and a mau who was defending lis rights and person has been convicted con-victed of a crime We believe the ends of justice have been more than served we know that his wife and family are needing his support we do not hesitate to say that It is our opinion that the setting of T W Tidwell at large will be a benefit to society rather than otherwise other-wise |
