Show s CHfiEK t Roland Heed in Xarsdens Racy I and Battling Comedy An audience < < of only raoderat not to say meagre dimensions witnessed the I performance at the Theatre last ing But what it facked in size it even lIlad up in appreciation and that too of an t intelligent character for the piece and I the performance were both meritorious Unlike so much of the trash that sails the sea of comedy until driven upon the rocks by the winds of just criticism Cheek was evidently made to float and I 1 survive having within it the elements I of ls success The company of which Mr Reed is th < i bright particular star is one of more than average talent and each character fits its personator with unusual nicety As Dick Smyth Mr Keed ib a fragrant reminiscence of John T Raymond Nat Goodwin Jacques Kruger and Tony Pastor rolled into one His jokes and smirks and songs and comicalities keep up an effervescence efferves-cence ot mirth and interest from first to lat Tbe parts of Nell and Mrs Abel Rickett in the hands of Miss Patrice and Alice Hastings were gems of comedy and the other characters were all portrayed acceptably The pocket edition of the Mi Jcado by Roland Reed and Miss Patrice was immense and elicited the heartiest applause The performers were twice recalled and ren dered in fine style some imitations of negro camp meeting melodies In the line of scenery a picture Madison Square New York with an electric light t of dazzling splendor in the foreground was a pretty and pleasing novelty I S This evening and tomorrow night Humbug one of Mr Reeds latest suc cesse > 7Tvch enjoyed a six months run at the Bijou New York will hold the board |
