Show Dominion Reciprocity OTTAWA April 10In the House of Commons today Mr Davies of Prince Edwards Island called attention to the trade relations of the Dominion with the United States He quoted the statement state-ment of Sir John A McDonald in New I York and elsewhere that the Canadian government intended to take no further action in the matter and the United i States government must take the initiative ini-tiative He believed that the public sentiment in the United States was in favOr of a renewal of the reciprocity treaty OTTAWA April 10In the House of Commons this evening the following amendment was offered That in view of the early termination of the fishery clauses in the treaty made at Washington Washing-ton this house is of the opinion that negotiations should be opened with the United States as well for the renewal of the reciprocal privileges accorded by that treaty tq American citizens and Britsh subjects respectively as for the opening of additional trade relations Between Canada and the United States and that in the conduct of such negotiations negotia-tions Canada should be directly repre sensed The amendment was defeated 93 to 68 |
