Market closed weak NEW YORK March 20Governments quiet unchanged Railway bonds quiet with limited business The feature in todays stocks was heavy trading in Pacific Mail accompanied by a further decline in stock of 4 The complications complica-tions growing out of the fight between the Pacific railroads and the notice of the Union Pacific to the Steamship Company ofthe intention to discontinue the subsidy paid by the railroads to that company was further complicated today to-day by a notice from the Central Pacific This settles the questi on as to the formality of the notice to the steamship i steam-ship company and unless a readjusted arrangement between the different com I pameais effected it ends the monthly I j pajme its of 95000 by the railroads to j the Pacific Mail after the expiration of the time required in the old contract The new agreement with the reduction in the subsidy is hinted at today but President Houston of the Pacific Mail is credited with the statement that no proposition looking to the reduction of I the amount to be received by his company com-pany would be considered There has oeen heavy selling for short account but it is believed tonight that insiders including some of the directors who were heavy holders of Pacific Mail also unloaded Late in the afternoon stock old down to 494 and closed with the la sales at 493 and 493 bid This is a decline of about 11 per cent in the past three days Trading in that stock today amounted to over 80000 shares or29 per lent ± of the total days business The general market opened strong and
