Show I The Cheyenncs WsuuBGToi June 2G Senator Ingafls today received a telegram from the Governor of Kansassaying an incursion by Cheyennes similar to that of 1878 apprehended and that great uneasiness prevails The western part of Kansas has been rapidly settled up I this season and new comers are in avery a-very defenseless condition Governor Martin therefore expressed the earnest desire that the Secretary of War should station troops on the south western border of the State to guard against any attacks from Indians Secretary Endi cott being out of town Senator Ingalls called upon the President with his telegram tele-gram and was assured that the matter had been the subject of earnest consideration consid-eration by the President and Cabinet and that aCtive measures had been taken both by the Interior and War Departments topreveit iJpissibe any outbreakof Indians and to repress it promptly should one occur |
