THE CLAIM is for additional addi-tional money over the bid price for work done on the Barton Creek bridge at Davis Boulevard. City Attorney Layne B. Forbes told the city council that the contractor (M. Morrin and Sons) has asked for the additional payment based on contention that additional ad-ditional time was needed to complete the project because of "inadequate and incorrect information obtained from the city." THE CONTRACTOR contends con-tends that the delays in construction con-struction resulted in additional addi-tional costs amounting to1 $93,000. Company officials maintain that they were not advised of the huge boulders and other problems encountered during the drilling and construction of the bridge. COMPLETION of the bridge was delayed nearly a year. However, in making final payment to the contractor, contrac-tor, the city deducted $1,400 $140 a day for ten late days which City Engineer Jack M. Balling said was justified. He noted, however, that the city waived more than $25,000 in penalty costs for delayed work because "the city deemed those delays to be out of the company's control." grb |
