declines in some of the usually active stocks At noon the market is active NEW YOEK November 14 Governments Govern-ments dull and steady Stocks extremely ex-tremely active and during most f the time feverish and irregular Reported sales were greater than on anv preceding preced-ing day of this year The actual number num-ber of shares bought and sold were probably not very much short of 1000 t 000 St Paul Erie Northern Pacific preferred Lake Shore and Kansas te Texas contributed over one half of the total days business Owing to the war cloud in Europe and other causes London Lon-don speculators were heavy sellers of American securities today The result here was an excited irregular opening No decided break occurred however until after 2 oclock when within fifteen fif-teen minutes nearly all the active shares declined from 4 to 1 per cent Erie and the Grangers and Lake Shore were the most prominent In the final dealings some stocks made a sudden rally t at the same time that other and more active securities were declining The market closed irregular and feverish Thera was very decided strength in Northern Pacific preferred which sold as high as 6OM a gain from last evening I otf 1 per cent closing with a net ad i vanse of 1 Union Pacific was prominent i for its weakness in the afternoon declining de-clining 2 per cent from the highest quotation of the day and closing with S anet decline of IX A prominent director direc-tor of the company is quoted as saying tnat he doubts if the company will pay andther dividend in the next ten yeap Comparing the prices of the leading
