Show WANTED HIS FREEDo Williamson the Horsethief Makes a Bad Break i Yesterday morning at about 11 oclock Officer Andrew Smith Jr who had stepped into the Assessor and Collectors Col-lectors office which M located in a rear room of the City Hill noticed a man come hurriedly through the jail door which had been left unfastened and turn towards the west gates of the enclosure i en-closure evidently in a hurry to getaway I get-away In an instant it dawned upon him that the fellow was none less than Williamson who ha several charges against him and bounding down the steps Smith soon reached the jail door onry to discover that the prisoner was several hundred yards in advance A few seconds later and the fleeing figure bad disappeared in the alley leading to the rear of Malquists blacksmith shop Determined to effect his capture if possible pos-sible the officer crowded on all the speed he could muster and succeeded in reaching his prize just as he was about to mount a horse which bd been tied near the shop It would have required re-quired but a few seconds more for Williamson Wil-liamson to have mounted the charger and disappeared Being covered with Smiths revolver however the fellow surrendered and was escorted back to the jail by Officer Smith Mr Smith is the youngest officer on the force and for the success of his first exploit is entitled to congratulations I |
