Show TO MAKB f IRON < < i X J J > i = i i The Prospective Revival of an Im jportaut Industry For nearly a year past Mr J E Brown of this city hasbeen negotiating1 with the Colorado Coal and Iron Coinr pany for the purchase ofthe old ironworks iron-works in this city His efforts thus far however have not been successful as the company seem to bs operating on the dogin themanger plan neither being willing Vo make iron themselves nor permit any one else to do so In fact their avowed purpose has been to see that no iron is made here they being be-ing able to furnish tbe market witd all of that commodity that is used This policy of the company howeverlike all others that have for their object the stoppage of legitimate enterprise should dqt is ajbout to receive a serio is set bact Mr Brown who was one of the gentlemen gen-tlemen who worked with assiduity to establish the original company for the manufacture of iron in this city and who wrenched success out of failure I and succeeded in making iron thatwas superior in quality to any that had been placed on the market has neither lost his experience nor his energy but with Spartanlike vigor has kept steadily at work and is now on the eve of Parting an establishment for the manufacture of pig iron He begins work on his furnaces this morning and will continue to prosecute his labors vigorously until he has his works completed and is turning turn-ing out a good quality of pig iron Mr Brown has made arrangements for the delivery of a large quantity of iron oren ore-n the near future besides having arrangements ar-rangements made for coke and charcoal char-coal Local capital in abundance is at the gentlemans disposal and it is not intended in-tended that the former experience shall be repeated in the new enterprise The gentleman has conceived the idea of utilizing natural gas which has been found in a large body near his place for the blastfurnaces and a series of experiments ex-periments in this direction will be made in the near future Mr Brown says that if his theories prove correct and he can obtain the results he feels assured can be obtained wi h the gas he will be able to turn out a quality of pig iron to sell at 10 per ton that has never sold here for less than 40 Negotiations are still pending for the purchase of the old iron works here and if they terminate successfully they will be started up within three weeks time and if they are unsuccessful it is only a question of a little additional time when Mr Brown will have his own furnaces running The nature of Mr Brown improvements 1 improve-ments is such that should he succeed in I getting the old iron works he can use I the works he is now constructing in his regular business so that he will not lose any money by the investment
